The course of Fundamentals of Mechanical Precision Design is a compulsory technical fundamental course for the students in the universities majoring in mechanical engineering or related discipline and instrumentation.  Based on national standards, the course introduces the basic concepts of interchangeability, tolerance, detection. Preliminary design methods of dimensional precision, geometric precision, surface roughness, typical components’ precision and advanced mechanical precision detection technology are described in this course. This course aims at learning the essence thinking for developing national standards rather than merely publicizing and implementing the standards. To enable students to establish the thinking that actual mechanical parts must exits error which can be only restricted within a certain range, the course tasks, moreover, the basic concepts of interchangeability, tolerance, detection, preliminary design methods of dimensional precision, geometric precision.
