A brief introduction of Department of Mechanical Design and Automation

Department of Mechanical Design and Automation is created by merging three departments (Department of Engineering Machinery, part of Department of Agricultural Machinery Design and Manufacturing, Department of Mechanics) of original Jilin University of Technology. Among them, Department of Engineering Machinery in 1986 was first obtained the right to award doctor degrees. In 1989, it was first approved to establish mobile engineering Postdoctoral Station. In 1997, "engineering equipment subject groupings" which took engineering machinery as leading discipline first became emphasis construction subject of the national "211 Project" key. Mechanical design and theory is the national key second-rate discipline.

Main research contents:

The department fully play its own advantages in the Multi-subjects amalgamation, which developed from engineering equipment research. Advanced technology of international engineering and equipment and the demand of the independent innovation of China's engineering equipment industry oriented, the general staff integrate the research subjects, team up with engineering expertise and optimize academic resource. The formation of a number of influential research includes modern design theory and method of engineering equipment, fluid drive and automatic transmission, dynamic simulation and control of engineering equipment, energy saving and new energy technology, intelligent engineering equipment etc.
    Status of scientific research team:

Department of Mechanical Design and Automation is recognized as high-level research, development and training base to cultivate talents with multi-abilities and study generic technology by our country engineering equipment industry. The faculty is well balanced in terms of combining of old, middle-aged and young teachers, who are highly qualified and experienced at teaching and research. This department has educated more than thousands of professional talents. It has also constructed Jilin key laboratories of advanced design and manufacture of engineering equipment, engineering equipment experimental center (state-recognized lab) and other high-level personnel training and scientific research and development platform. With a total of 26 teachers and laboratory technicians, there are 15 professors (including 7 doctoral supervisors), 22 teachers with doctoral degrees. The laboratory of the department is the base of experiment teaching and scientific research, which has 6 experimental teachers. The laboratory can also assist to complete the undergraduate course, including 'Thermal-Fluids Engineering I', 'Thermal-Fluids Engineering II', 'Technology of Advanced Design ', 'The Structure of Mechanical and Electrical Products Practice'. Currently it covers a teaching and research laboratory area of 2609 square meters, and all the equipment worth 13.6 million Yuan. The discipline has undertook 35 Research Projects of the "863" National Project, the State Natural Science Fund projects, as well as National Science-technology Support Plan Projects .It has also published more than 600 scholarly thesis which includes about 160 papers indexed by SCI and EI and has authored 40 academic monographs with 15 research results access to the National Science and Technology Progress Award as well as Provincial and Ministerial Level Scientific and Technological Progress Awards in the past 5 years.

In addition, we also assumed a large number of enterprises commissioned research and development issues.

We establish a stable mechanical in-depth international academic exchange and cooperation with the University of Michigan, University of Victoria of Canada, Technical University of Berlin in Germany as well as more than a dozen international famous universities and research institutes. We cultivate a large number of high-level personnel for Chinese Engineering equipment industry and universities. Our department is recognized as the cradle of engineering machinery research and development talent.
