Introduction of the mechanics experimental center

The mechanics experimental center of Jilin University was founded in 2004 based on the former mechanics laboratory since 1955. The center occupies an area of 1080 m2 and contains 323 major experimental and teaching equipments of mechanics. In the past five decades, the mechanics experimental center has been fully developed in the fundamental systems of laboratory management, experiment teaching and experimental equipment. The mechanics experimental center consists 8 main functional laboratories of mechanics including the mechanical properties laboratory, the theoretical mechanics laboratory, the impact fatigue laboratory, the fatigue and fracture laboratory, the photoelasticity experiment laboratory, the torsion laboratory, the electromotive stress laboratory and the vibration testing laboratory.

As a teaching center, the mechanics experimental center supports 7 specialized courses (including Theoretical Mechanics, Mechanics of Materials, Engineering Mechanics, Experimental Mechanics, Vibration Test, Fracture Mechanics and Fatigue strength and design) of 24 undergraduate majors in 8 schools of the university. The teaching group of the mechanics experimental center is constructed by 25 teachers and technicians including 2 doctoral tutors, 6 professors, 8 associate professors, 1 research professorship, 2 senior engineers and 2 engineers. The center is open to all the members of the university to facilitate the teaching and research of mechanics.

The mechanics experimental center is active both in teaching and research. The center is capable to accomplish the teaching missions of the university, meanwhile it is devoted to the scientific research and the reform of experimental teaching. In recent years, the center has provided experimental support for considerable research programs including the national natural science fund projects, the provincial science and technology development projects and the large testing projects of company. And many research articles has been published in high-rank national and international journals based on the research support of the center.

The mechanics experimental center are open and provides test service to all users (both inside and outside the university) in the follow research areas including the experimental test on the mechanical properties of metallic materials and composite materials in complex environments, the dynamic experiment and analysis of complex engineering structure, the experimental analysis of fatigue fracture in engineering structure, and the experimental study of biomedical engineering.

With the efforts to establish Jilin University as a world-class university, the mechanics experimental center is aimed to develop into a high-level and high-quality opening experimental center.
