School of Mechanical Science and Engineering,JilinUniversity  grew out of Department of Mechanical Manufacturing, Changchun University of Automobile and Tractor, which was composed of the related professional part of JiaotongUniversity, HuazhongUniversity of technology and Shandong University of technology.


With the revolution of national education system, the combination of colleges and universities as well as professional adjustment, in 1997, The Department of engineering mechanics, Department of mechanics, Department of agricultural machinery (part of) of Jilin University were integrated into mechanical science and engineering school, Jilin Polytechnic University. In 2000, with the faculties from JilinUniversity,ChangchunUniversityof science and technology, Changchun Institute of Posts and telecommunications joined in, the new school of mechanical science and engineering,JilinUniversity was established.


Mechanical engineering of Jilin University is one of the key disciplines of National level discipline of national "211 Project" and "985 Project" It includes mechanical manufacturing and automation, mechanical design and automation, mechanical and electronic engineering,which are three secondary subjects of national level key disciplines. In 2014, Mechanical Engineering Discipline was selected as the peak discipline platform in the transition period of Jilin university becoming the first-class university and the first class discipline. Engineering Disciplines has been ranked as world's top 1% of ESI. The college has 4 national level teaching platform and base, the National Machinery Foundation experimental teaching demonstration center,NationalMachineryVirtualSimulationExperimentTeachingCenter, National basic teaching base of engineering machinery, National Engineering Practice Education Center of Jilin University and First Automobile Group. And the college also has Key Laboratory of mechanical industry numerical control equipment reliability technology, Automobile parts manufacturing technology and equipment Jilin province university high end science and technology innovation platform, Key Laboratory of advanced manufacturing technology and systems of vehicle components and parts of Jilin Province, Jilin automobile parts manufacturing technology Engineering Research Center, Jilin mechanical and Electrical Equipment Reliability Technology Engineering Research Center, Jilin Province materials service performance testing industry public technology research and Development Center, Key Laboratory of advanced design and manufacturing of engineering equipment, Complex optical manufacturing engineering laboratory of Jilin Province, these 8 provincialand ministerial key laboratories and 1 National Accreditation laboratory.Mechanical engineering is a national characteristic specialty, with the Ministry of education Excellence Engineer education training program enrollment eligibility, and Ministry of education, the first batch of doctoral admissions qualification.


The school has 3 undergraduate majors : mechanical engineering, engineering mechanics and industrial engineering. Pay great attention to the cultivation of students' comprehensive quality, Innovative spirit and practical ability???.  Due to the high quality of students, our graduates have been in short supply for many years. Students have a wide range of employment options. Over the past five years, more than 30% of the students were guaranteed admission to be a master candidate or to beMaster-Docter combined program candidate to continue their studies. The supply and demand ratio of the rest graduates has been more than 1:10.


So far, there are more than 1800 undergraduate students and more than 600 graduate students in school. One Chinese Academy of Sciences Academician (Part-time), more than 10 people of approved or selected by the Ministry of education for "Yangtze River Scholar Award Program", Jilin University, "Professor Tang Aoqing", Jilin Province Changbai Mountain Scholars Program "and other national and provincial academic title.
